Behind the scenes videos
There’s a wide range of kit being used to upgrade the Dartmoor Line ready for its upcoming hourly train service. Get a glimpse of some of the clever technology being deployed in these short videos courtesy of Network Rail.
The auto-ballaster train, shown above, allows spoil to be loaded onto the back of the train on a single track line and move the spoil to the front of the train. This allows all the wagons to be filled up not just the one at the back.
Remote-controlled panel lifters move sections of track to provide easy access to the track bed.
The road to rail vehicle is able to switch between travelling on and off track.
