Rail taster trip – to the beach!

South Tawton Primary School ready to board the train

South Tawton Primary School had a fantastic time taking the Dartmoor Line today. They travelled from Okehampton to Exeter and then onward on the Avocet Line to Exmouth on a rail taster trip combined with end-of-term day out.

They started their day with a talk from the Devon & Cornwall Rail Partnership’s Rebecca Catterall (pictured above, left) at Okehampton station, and on board played eye spy out the window.

They then changed trains at Exeter St David’s to continue down to Exmouth – and had perfect beach weather!

A big thank you to Great Western Railway for supporting these trips, which are a great way to introduce young people to their railway.

South Tawton teacher Lucy Dennis said:

“It was wonderful to see how excited the children were about travelling on the train. For several of them it was their first ever train journey. Thank you for providing us with such a fantastic experience.”
